New paper

Fig 1. Frankie on new paper

I like trying out new paper. At the moment I like using a very smooth ivory 240-300gsm Bockingford watercolour paper; off-white Somerset printing paper is also surprisingly good to draw on although it is very soft and doesn’t suit hard pencil marks. I recently found Moleskine paper takes pencil beautifully and on a quest for a good smooth paper realised that some Ivory Rymans card that I bought for my (now deceased) printer works in a similar way, giving very crisp lines and allowing for really subtle pencil work. I tried graphite powder on it today with mixed success. I heard that Lawrence Art Shop has some imitation Japanese Velum paper, so it’ll be off to the distant reaches of far-Hove for me…
