THE DRAWING CIRCUS MANIFSTO
The Drawing…
Wolves and Life Drawings, with thanks to Fery, Jeni and Johanna.
Its very suddenly Spring, Ive been to the beach, received my first minor sun burn of the year and been able to leave the studio in the evening just a shirt (and trousers, just no coat). We’ve had the first balcony picnic and the first film and fold night of the year and I’m feeling thoroughly positive about the looming presence of May on the calendar.
Here’s the week in a few pictures…
Fig 1. Drawing Inspirations Awards Certificate
The Brighton Life Drawing Sessions won an award for our October event ‘Enlightenment: Life Drawing from the Cabinet of Wonders’. It took a huge amount of work from over 60 volunteers to make the event possible so well done to everyone involved! There’s more about the award [here].
Fig 2. Fred’s Flying Circus
On Friday I poped over to Worthing to help Chi Chi, Fred and Wendy set up their Little Big Top. Fred will be in Worthing all week so go check him out if you’re down Worthing way. I’m keen to get a circus tent of our very own for the Drawing Circus so keep your eyes peeled.
Fig 3. Molotov Skull
I also spent the evenings last week putting together an EP cover design for Molotov Jukebox, those Kings and Queens of Gypstep. If you haven’t heard them, they are right [here].

Fig 4. Princess work in progress
Ive also been trying to squeeze a little drawing in between all of that. I’ll be part of an Open House in May, more details coming very soon…
Now, once more unto the breach…
Jake
So my attempts at a regular post have been thwarted somewhat by a wonderfully refreshing lack of sitting-staring-at-a-computer time. I figured though that with lots of exciting things going on I should probably post some kind of update, so here it is.
Whats been happening lately…
Life Drawing has been happily ticking along, hight lights being a Tarot themed drawing session, Marilyn Monroe themed class with Laura Nixon and another show of Strings at the Keystone in Guildford. Ive also been working on the presentation document for a Learn to Draw book for Ilex press and have just done some live life-drawing for Maverick TV for a show that’ll be aired in the Autumn. If that wasnt enough here’s an article from the lovely Nione Meakin, shining jewel in the slightly tarnished crown of our local rag the Argus. Its amazing my head is still small enough to fit on that page.

Coming up…
As always there’s plenty in the pipeline; new paintings and drawings for the Artists Open House in May, producing Orson and Valentine (Daisy Jordon’s new Puppet Show), curating some great events for Bookstock (Brighton Book Festival) in June, and rolling out the Drawing Circus this summer for a start.
INFACT I’m going to post on some of those right now.
Tata,
Jake
This weekend we hosted Drawn from the Deck; Tarot themed life drawing. Ian, Frankie, Rosy, Emma and Johanna did a wonderful job of modeling. Drawings are coming soon.
